Leezoo: Day 11

Standard

This morning we found Leezoo held up in bed with a broken leg. Poor little lad tripped on the kids mess of toys in the playroom when he returned from the North Pole late last night.

¬†Leezoo thought it might be a good idea for the kids to pick-up their toys and each choose one they could share with a child who has fewer toys than they. The kids were great about choosing toys they liked, but were willing to part with, which we dropped off to the Salvation Army. ūüôā

Art Appreciation: Monet (Impressionism)

Standard

I love the arts, especially the creativity it evokes in young people. However, my own artistic ability, as it relates to visual arts, is very limited, and so I thought a fun way to integrate it into our school plan for the year would be through monthly Art Appreciation projects.

IMG_1586

For November’s Art Appreciation project we were mentored by the Impressionist artist, Monet.

IMG_1588  IMG_1587

We began by looking at some Monet paintings and then choosing a colour palate for our painting inspiration, The Holiday Train.

 IMG_1584 IMG_1585

Using a wet brush to apply paint lightly and a dry brush to give our strokes a fuzzy appearance, Little Momma and I set to work painting The CP Holiday Train from our memory, she had many great details to add, too!

Leezoo: Day 9

Standard

Today we found Leezoo making “elf-angels” in our rice bin.

IMG_1756

He asked that today the kids choose an angel from a local Angel Tree Program and choose gifts to buy for them.

IMG_1788

Little Momma chose an 8 year old girl, while Mr Man chose an 11 year old boy. They decided together that each child would like a pair of pajamas and a toy. And took great care in selecting those that¬†would be ‘just right’ for their chosen angels. It truly is a beautiful thing to watch your children bestow kindness onto others <3

Leezoo: Day 8

Standard

¬†Today Leezoo, the elf, was found hiding in our fridge and had written ‘Merry Christmas’ across all of our eggs!

IMG_1744

He suggested the kids make dinner for Mommy and Daddy tonight, which was an act of kindness if I ever heard of one!! ūüėČ

IMG_1748  IMG_1751

They decided on making us eggy pies (muffin tin omelettes) and toast! We ate an hour later then usual, the kitchen was a disaster, but they did it all themselves. And dinner was delicious!

Leezoo: Day 7

Standard

Leezoo is missing his Sister elf, Leah today! So he has asked darling Snow White to play Leah’s¬†part and spend the day sunning on the beach together!

IMG_1711

He thinks the kids should think of ways to be nice to their own siblings today and then spend the day showing each other EXTRA kindness!

 IMG_1727

And look, they all played nicely within the same camera frame!

Leezoo: Day 5

Standard

Today we found Leezoo covered in feathers, perched on a homemade bird feeder. The mischievous little guy made quite the mess of bird seed, too!

He invited the kids to make some bird feeders to hang in our yard for the birds!

 IMG_1659

This afternoon we set to work. Using styrofoam balls with pipe cleaners hangers, some peanut butter and birdseed we crafted some simple bird feeders that are quite popular with the birds!

 IMG_1666  IMG_1667

The kids were quite proud of their finished work and have already been discussing the need to replace the feeders once the birds have had their fill!

IMG_1644

I set up a card making area with paper, markers, stickers, old Christmas cards, glue and scissors and let the kids get creative! We made a pile of cards, which we will be filling with Tim Horton’s gift cards and sending to the Wear Red Fridays initiative.
